Q for Students or teachers

I only ask this out of pure interest , not trying to get at anyone or change the world ....Pure interest.
At college nowadays....Do you do practical ie get two switches and two lamp and actually wire them up in a upstairs/downstairs scenario and go thro the diagram of how it works do you actually get out meters and test simple circuits etc.

When I was at college (local college) that was one of the first things we did - theory first, then practical in the workshop. 3 plate, JB method, and even loop in at the switch.
Year 1, term 1, week 1.
If I were an employer I would be reluctant to employ an 'electrician' who can't wire a light.

Yeah, we did loads of prac when I was training, covering everything.

got to say when i went through there was very little training on the practical side although did lot of conduit bending.

Still do it + with drawings that bear little resemblance to what you are to be doing, using all the knackered tools the little scroats have been using to stab each other with during the day................. rant over !!
