I only ask this out of pure interest , not trying to get at anyone or change the world ....Pure interest.
At college nowadays....Do you do practical ie get two switches and two lamp and actually wire them up in a upstairs/downstairs scenario and go thro the diagram of how it works do you actually get out meters and test simple circuits etc.

For the practical side of the 2330 we do 2 plate, 3 plate, 2 way, intermediate, joint box, RB4 joint box, SWA, MI, tray & conduit (both pvc and steel), running of cables, ring finals, radials and lots of testing.

When you're a student, especially just out of school, doesn't mean that when you are doing something in class that you are going to concentrate enough to understand it. Afterall tomorrow never comes and the lecturer was boring, and besides you might get to see the lass you fancy in the canteen later :punk:

When I was at college (local college) that was one of the first things we did - theory first, then practical in the workshop. 3 plate, JB method, and even loop in at the switch.
Year 1, term 1, week 1.
If I were an employer I would be reluctant to employ an 'electrician' who can't wire a light.

I see you had alan touselle (sp.) as well then... not a single lesson went by were I didnt hear him say week one, term one lol

mayfair....answer is yes mate, on c&g 2330 l2 they have an assignment based around lighting, it has 6 circuits, One way, Two Way, Loop in two rooms/lamps, Intermediate, One way junction box method, Two way junction box method, each college does it differently, we have a brief and we design the circuits/assignments to suit it......we tried junction box intermediate...it fried their head!

Must admit some of the questions do seem a bit basic. ;) Maybe they've done something simple but didn't understand how it actually works so therefore couldn't work out how to expand on the scenarios. So don't know how to join the :dots:
