HI THERE,

I PASSED MY COLLEGE COURSE JANUARY 2008.(CITY AND GUILDS).HAVE NOT PASSED 2391, I HAVE NOT COMPLETED MY NVQ LEVEL THREE.BUT I CAN DO THE JOB ASWELL AS THE NEXT PERSON.I WORK FOR A COMPANY IN LINCOLN AND GET PAID 8.00 PER HOUR,DO YOU THINK THIS IS A FAIR WAGE FOR SOMEONE WHO WORKS ALONE OR WITH APPRENTICES ON RE-WIRES AND INSURANCE WORK.WE HAVE AN APPRENTICE IN HIS FINAL YEAR WHO IS ON 7.50 PER HOUR.I WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL FOR YOUR THOUGHTS.

Its not bad for a junior member of staff. I would be a little careful about rocking the boat at the moment though.

Really,even though i am being charged out at £25 per hour and i make the most money for the company.i know i cant rock the boat at the moment it is just a bit of a downer to be on so little.thanks for the reply

I used to get a bit miffed when i was an apprentice getting charged out at £20 P/H. Though spoke to my friend the other day who is a mathematician for the council he has a masters degree and omly earns 20K p/a. That cheered me up! He also is hired out to buisnesses, the council charge over £500 per day for him.

Maybe its time to become self employed for you both!

It sounds like me about 2 years ago, I told my boss I had to leave as I had been offered a better paid job and I got a £2 a hour rise. But in the current situation if I was you I would just say nothing there are a lot of electricians the would probably work for less than £8 to get a regular weekly wage. The company I worked for then bankrupted around 3 months ago I am now on my own I may charge my self out at more than £8 an hour and have been quite busy, but the weekly wage I used to rely on is no longer there.
So bite your lip and stick with it for a year (If your doing a good job and loyal, your boss will appreciate that and give you a rise with out you asking)

Im just going in to my third year at college and when I do ill be on 8.80 P/H I do think you should question your wage.

£8.00 p/h you need to get jib graded
do what it takes it will be worth it im sure what you do now is the same sort of work

my company is not jib registered though,so does it matter if i become jib because they wont have to increase my wages

I left my last company cos i was only on about 9.60 an hour fully qualified in a similar position to yours and now i'm self employed charging 15 to 25 quid and only working when it suits me. Be brave and take the leap!!

i cant take the leap cause of the economic climate,give it a year and ill be on my own earning money for myself

Hi Rob.

I know a lot of people say the JIB are **** but, according to them even an electrical improver should be on £10.67ph.

I know times is hard but dont let yourself be undervalued or else, your gaffer will take the michael all the while.

Personally, I think that wage is disgraceful and disrespectful, you could get more working a til, stacking shelves and sweeping the floor in Aldi, and that ain't no joke either!!!!!
