Hi,

please note this is a copy of another thread I made in the wrong forum (mods notified).

Hi, I've just bought a new house in need of some upgrading. I was thinking of getting one of these done so that if any electrical work was required that could be done first.

I'm in Glasgow and have seen various prices mentioned for this. What would be a fair price for this to be done on a 2 bedroom semi detached house?

I also wondered, if any changes are suggested, does it become a legal obligation to carry the work out?

And final question - is it safe to assume that someone carrying out eicr would give an honest report and not use it as an opportunity to create unneeded work for themselves? Sorry if that question seems disrespectful it isn't intended to be. But the are people to watch out for in most lines of work (mine included)!

If anyone had a moment to answer these questions I'd really appreciate it. Of if anyone in the area who is qualified wants to post here, we can talk about perhaps quoting for the work.

Thank you

haha. tell that to the bank. got a big job lined up, but builders are that slow. foundations went in 2 month ago and no progress since.

Bank??!! ............ Flickin' BANK?????!!!! ... I thought you Scousers kept all yer moolah under the mattress!!

OK .... True story here: I have a Cousin - several really but this one's called Brian - and he's as tight as the proverbial gnat's chuff. He's never had a holiday or been to a cinema except for once when his girlfriend paid the admission on their fist - and last date because such frivolities are a "waste of money". He doesn't trust banks either (sensible lad) so really does (or did) keep his money under his mattress.

Now our Grandma is the Scouser who made a killing during the war flogging dodgy petrol, coal and anything else that came her way and Our Brian was always sucking up to her thinking that there would be something for him in her Will etc. Anyway, she was having a clear-out one day and found a brand new electric blanket still in its box and gave it to Brian to get him off her back for a while.

Brain took it home and put it on his bed and finding it was a double bed size and his bed was a single bed, folded the blanket. Ok .... long story shortened a bit - the whole lot went up in flames - including his money. Oh how we laughed! :)

Hi, thanks for the replies - though it seems to have gone a bit off course somewhere!

The reason I re posted the thread, is because the original was in the DIY forum. I got a pm from an electrician in Glasgow offering for the work. I asked him to reply in the thread and he didn't think he could because access to that thread is limited?

Anyway, still hoping that a Glasgow based electrician may chip in at some point :)

Thanks

Pity old Jamie is no longer a member he wouldn't LEAF the op in trouble.

I don't know what you mean.

Newg, the electrician who pm'd you works with me - he's been out on calls all day and will probably respond later.
We pride ourselves in providing an honest assessment of an electrical installation. We will offer if requested, a fixed price for any remedial work, but as said elsewhere, there is no requirement to use the same company to do both the EICR & any remedials.
Truth is, as with any trade/profession, there are good and bad. Like most electricians on this site, pride in our work, customer satisfaction and a fair pricing structure is core to what we do.
As for pricing, again like most here, we do not publish this on a public forum, but are happy to offer a fixed price for an inspection regime, agreed in advance....oh, and public liability & professional indemnity insurance is included!

Thanks for your post. The whole reason I posted in the forum was to look for this kind of response.

Get quotes from a registered company or electrician from the NICEIC or SELECT, cost should be ÂŁ180 to ÂŁ200 and take around 6 hours. If there are codes which require rectification work, also get quotes for this work from the NICEIC etc.; don't just get the work done by the original contractor, that way you have a cross check for the probable validity of any codes for rectification work.

If you are considering renting the property out, you would need to be registered with the local authority, it is a criminal offence not to be so. Also, 5 year mandatory electrical inspections for rented properties are about to be, or are currently in place for these.

Regards
