The electricity supply to my consumer unit dropped. The unit's in the middle of the house so the distributor (UK Power Networks) have said they'll provide power to the front of the house but I have to pay for a meter box and for an electrician to run a cable from the meter box to the consumer unit in the middle of the house. Is that right? Should the distributor be responsible for the power to the consumer unit or just the front of the house?

Any advice would be very appreciated.

Cheers.

Know it's a daft question but could I leave the meter where it is and make them provide power to the meter there? As it is, they have to take the meter off, then I have to get an electrician to put the meter box on, and then my service provider has to reinstall the meter. It might be easier all round to leave the meter where it is. Think they'll buy that plan...?

Sorry, I think you need to be a little clearer here.... are you saying that you want to move your existing incoming supply point AND METER from where it is at the moment to somewhere else?

think he's saying that DNO want his meter moving as it's not easily accessible without them doing a little bit of work.

If that's the case, then to my mind the DNO ought to pay for it (if they want it moved for their own convenience).

The meter is currently inside the house by the consumer unit. I've been told by UK Power Networks that the consumer box and meter should have been moved to near the outside when the house was extended, before I moved in. Consequently, they're saying that their responsibility is to provide power to the front of the house and I have to pay to move the meter. However, my argument is, there's nothing wrong with the meter or where it is (out of the way) and I don't want to move it to the front of the house as I don't want a box on the wall. So, if I push them to leave the meter where it is and to provide power to it, do you think I'll have a chance?

If I have to pay for it I will but if they're trying to get out of a job because it's a bit tricky for them, then I'd rather they'd pick up their responsibility and not fob me off with a story I have no knowledge of. Hence, your help is very... helpful.)
