Hi guys i have recently passed the city and guilds 2330 level 2 and i have just started the level 3 diploma. I have an oppurtunity to work and apprentice at the michelin but i was told that i shuld put electrical techncian rather than an electrican on my covering letter because that is what they are looking for. I was wondering what the difference between the two are and can i work as a techncian with the certifcate i have and am tryin to gain now sorry about the length of the question thanks.

i would put apprentice electrician if that is the job you are applying for, hoping to progress to electrical technician or maintenance electrician or whatever they call their time served sparks. as for michellin, i visited their site in N.I and was gobsmacked by everything. salaries(ace), benefits, their own social club with bar, gym, all tools provided(Snap-On) and all engineering management and supervisors were ex michellin apprentices. a safe bet i reckon;)

good luck mate, i cant over emphasis enough what a slick and professional engineering maintenance strategy these guys have in place, for example, a lot of their machine operators have been trained to city & guilds 1 in engineering by the company so the tradesmen's time isn't wasted with mickey mouse crap and the operators can inform you well in advance of imminent failures by simple checks such as using infra red thermometers on motor casings and bearing housings to detect overheating etc. the tradesmen pick up job cards at the start of shift for tasks which have been planned weeks in advance, no doubt from operator feedback. me, i spend most of my time bouncing from one breakdown to the next whilst trying to do PM.
