Dear Sir/Madam

I'm wondering how can I start work as an electrician. I have passed the 17th Edition Exam and am now qualified competent. What is the next stage in the process of becoming an approved electrician?

Kind regards,
M Ahmad

Are you qualified only on paper... if you have no working experience then your not competent yet.

I would be looking at many years on the tools first before looking at the approved tag.

What course did you do as a matter of interest and what qualifications do you now hold on paper.
Have you done your Test and Inspection
Have you done your AM2 (If it still works like that nowadays)

To be classified as an approved electrician you would need to have:
A Level 3 Certificate in the Certification of Electrical Installations (inspection, testing and certification of electrical installations) (City and Guilds 2391, OR City and Guilds 2394 AND City and Guilds 2395)
AND
Apprenticeship Deeds or Completion Certificate
OR City and Guilds 2360 parts one and two
OR full 2351
OR 2330 Levels two and three AND NVQ Level 3 in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Installation – Buildings and Structures) (City and Guilds 2356)
OR Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical systems and equipment (Buildings, Structures and
the environment) (City and Guilds 2357)

Akmal, with the greatest of respect, I have just looked at your post history and you have asked several questions relating to this, 5 in total, and not one if them you have replied to after asking the initial question and others have taken the time to reply to them.

Try using the 'Reply to thread' button and getting some mannors.

To the regulars on here, I wouldn't bother replying to the OP as he can't be bothered to respond!

Hi,

Thank you for replying to me, i appreciate your help and will try to do most of these exams. I'm a builder who has lots of experience in electric field. Now i'm preparing myself for Inspection and Testing exam, soon I will also do Part P and PAT exams.

Once again, Thanks

Akmal, please tell us how exactly you gained all this experience. Do you not think that the underpinning knowledge is something that should be learnt?
If I said to you that I've laid about 20 bricks in my life and now I'm going to build a house you'd think I was a fool wouldn't you?
With all due respect, that's how you're coming across here mate.

2357 isn't an exam, it's tons of exams and a lovely picture portfolio, they'll also throw in a final 3 day exam with the examiner breathing down your neck every step of the way. Honestly without the 2357 you won't be qualified full stop --->. Good luck!

I would call you an enthusiastic fool! If you never try these things you don't learn, I've always been one for doing everything, never get another trade in. But building a house, yeah that's taking a garden wall project a little far!
