Radial to Ring

I need to put in 4 sockets in a shop, where the sockets are going is a 6mm radial from an old circuit, its on a 32a rcbo, can i pull this 6mm into a 4 pole isolator and run a ring out of it, iv looked through the regs and cant really find anything thats says i cant.

Thats meant to be 2 pole, im looking at doing it this way as its quite a long run to rewire it, I thought having an isolator in line would make make it neater

If the 6mm is only feeding socket outlets why not just extend it to feed the additional ones?
I'm assuming everything is testing out ok

what you are describing is a so called lollipop ring, these are not prevented by the regulations but can be a nightmare to identify later.

A radial circuit can have as many outlets as you need so long as you are not overloading the cable. A 6mm2 cable with a 32A breaker is perfectly fine for plenty of socket outlets.
You would just find it a bit tight to get 2 6mm2 in one SO. But you could also drop the csa to 4mm and continue as a standard 32A 4mm radial.

(it is an unfused spur off a ring that can only be one outlet)

6mm s gonny be a tight fit check new sockets as some manufacturers are better than others for accomodating there is one on the market has 2 terminals at each connection but i cant mind the make for the life of me CLIK comes to mind tho

Generally, yes frowned upon but not dangerous or against the regs, just inconvenient to test and check later. I do not think it was ever standard, (but I could be wrong)

I have seen lots of them in a university science department. They ran a 6mm to the labs, and then had a DP isolator. This then fed the ring. RCD protection was added in some labs, but not in others, due to experiments that could be ruined if the power was lost.

A lot of council and miners mansion housing back in the 60's was wired similar to this.

You would have a ring running around, and at every socket point the ring would go into a JB and then a single cable out to the socket, it was felt you used less cable which I suppose you did, easier chasing in a single cable rather than 2 cables and easier connecting into a socket.

Always threw me at first, but got use to it
