we use the same set for cables when these are too small

used them before when subbing. right pain. lug falls off the cable just when it's then too tight to get back on.

Shanky,

I tried a Silverline crimper today with red handles, I cant say I was impressed, it did not crimp very well and only crimped one way. Do they sell different models?
the ones i had were blue handled.

The majority of Silverline "tools" are cheaply manufactured crap IMO. I would not buy any of there products again personally.

you lot must have muscles like 'Garth' to be able to use pliers ' to crimp cables. I have 2 prs of crimping tools 1) red/blue/yellow 2) 10mm-25mm, both ratchet and adequate for my requirements at the mo. maybe I should start going to the gym.

crimping 70mm is hard but i prefer pliers.

we install a lot of control panels so i would say we throw around more weight than a lot of commercial sparks etc. getting new switchgear into a room and put together is not easy with 3 of you

These 'pliers' must have handles 3ft long to be able to crimp large cables, as it is I use both hands to crimp 2.5mm , I really must get to the gym.

As I said in post #11 you really need the right crimpers for each type of crimp.
Where pliers or 'plier-type crimpers' are mentioned, people are talking about crimping ferrules.

I have the older 14V version of this, cos I am a Tart  lol

insulated crimps or lugs are a lot harder than ferrules
