Hi All!

Does anyone know of a brand of RCBO which will fit in place of an old BS3871 Type 2 HB Wylex MCB in a Wylex TPN metal clad Distribution board?

Thanks in advance

Thanks Tel, I have seen this thread already, followed up the proteus comment with CEF but they say it is obselete and was made before RCBOs existed. So no luck there really, just wondered if anyone had any other ideas as to what might fit, trying to aviod replacing the whole D.B if poss, Might resort to replacing the Matrix and incomer in the existing D.B shell if I can find something that will fit...

Yeah could do but the work is part of remedial action following an EICR and have to replace pretty much all the MCBs with RCBOs and all 36No. ways on the D.B are being used.

Just a thought. Being an industrial/commercial 3-phase DB, why not make sure the present system is safe by making sure that the EEBADS is providing the protection?

It is a Nursing Home distribution board. What with 13A socket outlet circuits, bathroom circuits and the fact most circuitry is concealed behind plaster the need for 30MA RCD protection is rife!

I thought EEBADs had been superseeded by ADS anyway?

Not really. 411 and 415.2, EEBADS still includes ADS, just takes on board other forms of protection such as 415.1

In this case being a nursing home, you will require additional protection in the bathrooms. I would personally change the board and keep the 3871 breakers as spares ( They are now becoming as rare as rocking horse doo doos)

Yes i intend to 'hoard' the old MCBs! Ha ha. My hope was that I wouldnt have to change the whole DB as alot of SWAs/Metal conduit glanded into it, in a tight cupboard! So are you saying EEBADs still exists as an 'umbrella' term in the 17th edition and in turn ADS falls under it?

WHEN was the installation done??? Does it still comply with regulations in force at that time ? no need for all those RCBOs Altho I would put RCD sockets near doors where stuff could be used outside

With the absence of RCD protection to most of the circuits in question the installation does not comply with current BS7671 2008 (17th edition) as amended. To say the installation does not require the remedial action because it complies with regs in force at the time of installation is a bit strange? If we applied that logic to all EICRs there would be no such thing as remedial action?
