Hi all

I have changed a consumer unit for my friend as he had the wylex rewirable, the earthing arrangement is PME, I have used a duel RCD board but as he only has 5 circuits I have put all circuits on one RCD, I have a fault on the ring circuit. soon as there is anything plugged In the RCD trips, with everything unplugged the RCD holds in however press the RCD test button and nothing happens, thinking a faulty RCD I swapped for the spare and the same happens, soon as I disconnect the ring circuit the RCD test button works, I have done an RCD test with good readings, I have also done insulation resistance test on the ring circuit all coming back good readings, end to end tests good too, I have looked in every socket no obvious sign

any help would be greatly appriechiated

Thanks

Only a small house, one ring circuit for the whole house, cooker, shower, lighting circuit for the whole house and an immersion heater so didn't think it required the dual usage. Yes the neutrals are all in the right neutral bar

I cant believe that people have actually given serious replies to this.

OP if this is a serious question I suggest you sell your tool (and any test equipment if you own any).

Then find a reputable electrician who you will pay to put right your bodge job and explain to your customer you are not actually competent to do what they paid you to do.

Dillb, are you after my title? I’d have been proud of that response.

In all seriousness, the OP should heed your advice.

One thing that’s puzzled me for years, is there a value for OK?

It was the first paragraph that wound me up.

I wonder if some of these are wind ups.

i would write it a bit like that if I were to concoct one, as for the reason why..... Anyones guess

Some people installing a new consumer unit don't actually understand about why and how you might split the circuits over the two RCDs. For example, I've come across installations with all the lights on one RCD, and all the sockets on the other.

I would add though that a typical good TT rod of 100 ohms only needs 3V to have 30mA flowing and so trip an RCD, you might find that sort of N-E...
