Discuss RCD protection for circuits in a toilet (not shower/bathroom) in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hi guys,

ive came across a couple EICRs conducted by other electricians that are unsatisfactory due to lack of RCD protection.

...the circuits they have suggested is lacking RCD protection in the hand dryers, heaters and water heaters within the toilet. They is no bath or shower just the toilet and basin.

It was given a code 3 with lack of adequate RCD protection.

If it's a code C3, then how does that make the result of the EICR 'Unsatisfactory'? Surely a C3 indicates that improvement is recommended?

Sorry yes it a code 3, but they also code 2s on the report which makes it the unsatisfactory.

So, which is it: unsatisfactory due to lack of RCD protection, or unsatisfactory due to some C2s relating to something other than lack of RCD protection?

You're not making it easy to have a constructive discussion about this.

guys, you push any newbies out and dont let them in. They been posts that i have left and not replied to only due to the way people answer with put downs.

They is a way to say things without being rude. Constructive advice is welcomed, thats what forums are for, but as I say they a way to say things

I think I'm a good reader of people, not part of any particular clique, you can tell when someone is extracting the pee with their post, I don't honestly know how you can say that, trainees get all the help they need, sometime due to lack of information in peoples profiles Micky taking can occur at times but generally it's light hearted.

Someone has said previously this is a forum for Professional Electricians, Professional, that means you do your job for payment, I think what gets up guys noses a lot is people who profess to being Electricians asking what Electricians should know, OK discuss things and argue with each other by all means, there have been some threads which are plainly information orientated, without any input from the poster "how do I do so and so etc" I have been an Electrician since I left secondary education in 1961, I don't profess to know every thing, far from it, I guess what I'm saying is if you are continually asking without any input then expect some grief, I'm not saying thus the case for yourself, just pointing out what people might think. In my case I started off and someone questioned my qualifications, I have been barred once for a week not complaining if I broke the rule then so be it, so part of a clique? I don't think so.
End of rant

I still class myself as a newbie to this site, even though it's probably not strictly true. But I have to disagree with you strongly OP - I've been welcomed in to this forum with open arms, the advice I've received on here is second to none, and in the process I've had a laugh, learned a lot, and I'd even like to think there's one or two on here that I'd enjoy their company over a cold one. So the question I put to you OP is how can this click [sic] be so welcoming to one person and hostile to another?

It's all about attitude isn't it Hightower. I'm not an electrician, I understand the basics (I definitely am cleaner than a virgin on electronics) but I review this forum frequently and enjoy reading the posts and cringing at the way some installs have been carried out. With yourself I have noticed how you approach asking questions or seeking advice. You generally put a reason for why you raised a question, state what you believe could be the solution and how you arrived at that and ask for affirmation or correction on your thought process. Or I see you posting in a thread which is beyond any scope you have been involved with before but take an active interest and seek to learn more. It is so refreshing to see people with such a keen interest to learn, and not just achieve a qualification (because cleary you see that the qualification is only the start and has no real bearing on competance). It is this manner in which you approach your chosen career that encourages support from the memebers here.
That was clearly evident by the responses you received on your 'cheeky request' thread not long ago. I was so pleased to see the immediate level of offers coming your way, it was really heart warming to see. (as i'm not in the trade it was not something I had any equipment to offer, but if I have had any gear I would of sent it your way because I think you are an inspiration).
Keep it up fella :)

Can we not just draw a line under this subject.
As far as I'm concerned this is a storm in a tea cup.
The question has been asked and answered.
All this guff about having experience and the way questions have been asked is a waste of time.

Following Spin here, the OP has been answered so I see no further purpose to keeping the thread open in the direction it has taken as its only raising tensions between members.

Can I remind you all that we have a report button and we prefer you to use it rather than start and/or enter a banter war over how you think other members should use the forum and/or what they can and cannot ask - we will then review it and decide on the best course of action if any, this applies to the OP too, if you feel you are getting trolled, abused or slated then report and we will take it from there.
