Hi, I was changing an old Square D board, RCCB MAIN SWITCH, because it was tripping at 12mA when doing a ramp test.

Installed an rcbo board, and ramp test still trips at 12mA??

Any opinions on this?

Is there already leakage on the circuits? Your Tester might be showing a trip at 12mA but if you aren't starting at 0 then it might be tripping at 24mA in reality if there was 12mA leakage already present for example.

Did you expect, by changing the board, for it to cure the tripping fault ?

I ramp tested the RCD, it tripped at 12mA, as its a bloody dinosaur, I figured it's old and nackard, and now needs changing. You can't buy them replacements so I advised him to update his board. He has about 4 audio filters, a ---- load of electronic equipment which I assumed is naturally causing some earth leakage, hence its tripping.

Since new boards in, nothing has tripped thank god, told him to call me if anything trips.

but was it tripping before doing a test?

Hi mate, from what I was told, it was tripping when he turned off his Audio filters. Other than that, it was ok. The rcd must be atleast 15 years old, so I did a ramp test, it tripped at 12mA, so assuming the rcd is nackard and cudnt be replaced, I changed the board to rcbos. Funny enough it's not tripping now with all his equipment on but my ramp test still showed 12mA. I should've thoroughly tested for earth leakage but its all good, he wanted the board changing and moving location anyway.

If it’s rcbo’s, then it’s 30mA per circuit… an rcd mainswitch is 30mA for ALL circuits

It may just be a cumulative earth leakage which was just too high across everything.

There may have been nothing wrong with his original rcd, nothing wrong with the cables or accessories and nothing wrong with any of his plugged in equipment…..

But they just didn’t work altogether.
