Discuss RCD Times on EIC in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

You should also be aware, if you don't already know, that the RCD must be tested x 1/2 rated trip current, x1, and x5, at 0 degrees and 180 degrees, then mechanical test button, so 7 tests in all. I am refering to the 30ma ones used in domestic, there are other RCD's available.

page 82 16th edition on site guide 11.5 wher an rcd or rcbo with a rated residual operating current of 30ma is used to provide supplementary protection against direct contact with a test current of51 n the device should open in less than 40ms, unless the the protective conductor potential rises by less than 50v
regards

We are on the 17th now

yeah, got that. i have always gone with 200msec as a guideline until a friendly factory electrician copied the brb for me.he was writing for hours. lol

I think there should be another columb x1 x5 and Ramp , be so usefull when an inspections do a few years after to see if the RCD ramp test is still tripping as recorded

good point nick. seems very few of us bother with ramp test except when there is a problem e.g.nuisance tripping. be good to see box on a cert. for ramp test.

how many of you want to sit that again after having just sat the last edition within the last 2years

I wouldn't worry Mad Frankie, it's only an amendment coming out next year so there will be no exam.
The 16th edition had several amendments during its 17 year history.
