Hello Little Helper, RCD works with another lighting circuit put in it, dimmer was there in the first instance, new one worked for a few hours then tripped, but RCD still trips with all switches removed from pattress' and bulbs out. I'm in the loft on Monday to find dimmer cabling to see if any faults/damage etc.

Hello Darkwood, thanks for your concern but I do possess all the correct equipment to practice as registered domestic electrician. Using a Wander lead I got readings from the L, N, and E from the CU to the ceiling roses. At one point I got a reading from the ceiling L to an L/com on dimmer switch line but the L was removed from the ceiling rose at that point, so somehow it was connected. However, I checked it again the following day (due to time restraints at the time from the customer) and there was now no reading. I'm in the loft on Monday to see if any faults/damage to dimmer cable. What do you think?!

Ooh, I got a reading form the CU to the dimmer L/com, and the L on the ceiling rose was removed...?!

What else has your customer replaced, possibly a socket also. As its been said you need to IR test, and all common shared neutrals on that side of the rcd.

Like the other guys have said you need to do IR test, if the readings are bad then go looking for damaged or faulty cables, then you can narrow it down by doing IR tests on separate parts of the circuit
