Hi guys. I put ma bill in for 4 days very hard work with a lad for ÂŁ1000 exactly and the bo had abit of a moan.

He then said we'll sort it out when i get back off holiday. The bill IMO was fair. So i went in the office to say we'll sort it out now, coz things like this work me up.

Im a jehovahs witness (im sorry if u dont like us, but i stand by my faith) and as i wa walking in i heard him say "i wish i was a jehovah's"

If he calls me into my office to have a dig at me for my bill, and decides to go further with anything, can i use tgis against him in some way?? Im not planning on taking it further myself unless he does, but at least i have abit more ammunition if he does.

Cheers guys.

i dont dislike any religion mate, but have had problems with jehovas witnesses who wont leave when ive told them im not interested. This doenst mean i dislike all jehovas witnesses, i fully understand and respect that some people beleive in god ect, but i dont.

as for your bill, then if its fair, and you HONESTLY believe that you have been discriminated against, then you must raise this firstly with him. if this doesnt resolve it, then you must take up the issue with is superior, or other directors, if he is a director himself. further than this, im not sure what help is available.

John

Yeahhh some are abit difficult to get rid of aint they lol, they even annoy me sometimes and i am one lol.

Anyway, yeahh hes the maim director, hes top dog before the bloke who owns the company, but the bloke who owns it is never around.

I just get worked up easy, especially when its blokes like gavin, the boss, who you get on with, who then turn out to be disrespecting you, despite all the hard work thats been put in.

Like i said, i dont want to take any action against him as i will keep getting work from him as long as this is all settled.

I just want to know where i stand if he does.

Is that ÂŁ250 a day for you and someone else you have to pay, or is that just your wage? I think I'm reading the original post incorrectly and just want to be sure before I post any further;)

:thumbsup

"Hi guys. I put ma bill in for 4 days very hard work with a lad for ÂŁ1000 exactly and the bo had abit of a moan."............. I think its the op and a lad because he refers to it as "hard work" as if he did the work, I assume. To the op, have you got a late fee in your contract? If not get one and charge 5% of the total bill per day until the bill is paid. Bet that he pays you before he goes on holiday ;). As for the remark he made? I would just ask for an explanation and an apology or if he would like to discuss your chosen religion then you would be happy to arrange you and a few friends to turn up at his office and discuss it! I'm sure he will say sorry prity quick.

My personal opinion is to deal with it like a professional and not bring any personal issues, if I am having trouble with somebody, whether professionally or personally I don't think "it is because I am white/dyslexic" or whatever other justification I can find. The simple fact could be that he is a dick, doesnt matter who you are he is going to act like that because he can/doesnt know any better.

Don't stoop to making it about race or religion is what I am tryin to say.

I wish some people like the guy OP talks about would THINK before opening their gobs as ANYONE can find offence in anything you say IE: my m8 john was at an Equality and Diversity course down in deepest england h walked in n was greeted by the guys who knew him "hi JOCK hows it hangin" the course tutor then asked WHY they refered to JOHN as JOCK one guy answered coz thats what h is a JOCK She them pointed out that taken to extreems She could have taken the class to discrimination as she found it offensive that a group should call a scotsman JOCK An Irish man Paddy Welsh man TAFFY even if the individual being refered to doesnt mind
On his return we were sitting talking about the course I said so I cant call you " A ginger heided specky timmy (masterbator)" to which he replied that I could call him a Masterbator as this wasnt discriminatory

Thanks guys. As for the bill its been paid by the secatary, however gavin, the director, can be abit unstable and want to go to court over it or anything, he can be very unpredictable and OTT.... He tried to fire one guy when he fell down some stairs at work, then had the rest of the day off, but never broke a limb, just a few scratches & bruises, and never threatend or did make a claim against the company.... Obvious to say he never found legal grounds to fire him, so he couldnt... On the other hand he can be very reasonable, and if he comes back and says nothing, ill say nothing about it coz we all do say stupid things like that, i have, im sure many reading this have and no doubt will again.

What im saying is if he wants to leave it or talk about it in reasonably then i will, but if he wants to be unreasonable about it and try dictate what he wants to happen, then i dont see why i should let him get away with his comment.

Again thanks for all your input guys, its all very helpful :)

How does he know you're a Jehovah's Witness?
I don't think that launching an attack on someone's age, weight, hair colour, religion, race, sexuality, bizarre hobbies etc is appropriate, nor is it for the person involved to mention it if they don't want other people to discuss it.
eg if an old sparks keeps going on about how he's winding down for retirement and blaming his mistakes on his age, he's inviting other people to do so as well, and I don't think anyone should face disciplinary action for telling him to "pull your finger out you doddery old fool".
If however he never mentioned his age I wouldn't expect anyone else to either.

So yes, I think discrimination is a two way thing. If you've just written your religion on a form (which should be confidential) then this guy has no business even mentioning it and you should have a discreet word with him to clarify the situation, however if you spend all day talking about it then I would say you've opened the discussion as fair game and should choose different conversational topics in future, and grit your teeth until everyone forgets.

Well my dad used to work at the company and my dad would often sit and read our mags or the bible, but would never bothered anyone with it, if someone asked a question about it he'd be happy to talk about it, since alot of people do query our religion. I on the other hand just being a contractor never really talk about it there exept for maybe another witness, or again if someone asks, but generally, like me farther, i think im there to work not preach, just like everyone else, and in the bible itself, it says theres a time and a place for everything, and work really is neither IMO.

To me it seems hes holding the jewish stereotype against me if that makes sense??? I dont mean that offensively obviously, just how it seems...

Hahaha "them bloody witnesses again" ;)

Dont get me wrong i like abit of banter around it like that, i aint one of these who takes offence to every lil comment :)

Cal dood this makes perfect sense to me. In a previous job my supervisor was/is a johovas witness to the extreme but a little time after a new man came to the company that I trained and he was a jahivas witness as well! I had it from both sides so to say :) . But what I will say regarding anyone's religious believes its their believes and we should not make any public statement infront of them or to insult. We all have our own personal believe regardless of if we are religious or not and we should not interfere with others moral standing. This man thinks that your bill has something to do with your religion, at the end of the day you are an electrician and that is what you've charged for, nothing to do with your personal life. Stand your ground on this one and request an apology imo. BTW I don't have any fixed religious believes and the main thing we are all electricians on this site and that's my religion when I post anything up. The wiring regs is my bible. Good luck with your predicament.
