Very quick alarm question. I'm about to remove a door which has a reed switch door sensor for the alarm on. See the picture below.

We won't need the sensor any more. Does the reed switch hold the circuit open or closed? If I simply connect the red and black wires, will the alarm always assume the door is closed?

TIA!

You particular case you have a set of resistors inline with the door contact, tbh it would be better to have them disconnected at the Alarm control end, this would ensure you don't get issues in the future like false alarms, is this door an outside door or a door used for normal entry to the premises and do you intend on keeping the existing alarm up and running... the reason I ask is this may be the entry/exit command for the alarm and that would mean you cannot just simply omit it.

If you short the black and red wires the alarm panel would see a fault and probably not let you set the alarm until cleared. As darkwood has said you should remove the wires from the panel and or disable the input. You could as a bodge stick the resisters in the panel however and cut out the cable.

Hi - thanks for such a swift response.

It was an outside door, but after the building work it won't be any more. I wouldn't say it's a 'normal' entrance, as it's the old kitchen door, but you could certainly come and go through it. After the building though, there won't be an entrance there any more.

the only other way would be to connect one resistor to the red and black and discard the other one. can't tell you on open forum. if you need to know how, pm me later.

Just be careful tel, the OP may have zoned seperate entry exits or both doors combined in series - would need to work out what is what first with a walk test possibly. I sure your on top of this already and not teaching you to suck eggs but would need more info to advise correctly if we were to advise disconnecting at the control panel.

Looking at the value on the resistors, its a Texecom or Menvier Tel...Suggest knocking the zone off on the panel, if codes are known....so will leave you to pm.

might bwe an ewasier option.

If codes are known that is.....The zone is single device, as the resistor config is wired for 1 contact, so no other devices are wired in series.

But to keep an operational alarm another door contact would need fitting at the new entrance/exit or maybe there's a PIR existing in a spot that could be configured as the entry/exit zone ?

The op has stated it is not an e/e zone and the door is being bricked up
