Got a fair few fluorescents im maintaining. twin 70w. new starter and lamp didnt do the trick so im replacing the ballast,

Iv got osram quicktronic 2x58-70 i understand the connection for the lamps. 21 and 22 to 1 end of tube1 25 and 26 to one end of tube 2. then 23 to other end of tube 1 and linked to other pin and then to other end of tube 2 and back to ballast. Its nots very clear on the power connections tho. 1,2 and 3. 2 is ground but it doesnt say live or neutral on 1 or 3 and i didnt want to damage the ballast and connect wrong.

wholesaler supplied me with 4-80w/18-36-58w fs-u starters. I think these are wrong sometime they ignite the lamp but more often that not wont. Are electronic ballasts worth the extra money 70-150w?

Thanks

Something's not right! Take the fitting down and into your local trade counter and get help with correct parts. They should offer the correct parts or verify that you have already got the right parts. Other sparks at the counter should help. Did you say you got no installer's leaflet?
Cheers
Les

ballasts come with a printed wiring plan on them so doubt any leaflets would be supplied, also the standard switch start ballasts in flourescent fitting are in series with the phase and dont normally have a Neutral connection as that will go to the other end of the lamp.
Are you sure your ballast isn't electronic thus you need to take out the starter from the circuit as its not required, this should all be shown on the ballast ?
Against 1 an 3 what other symbols or letters is there?

Try looking for the website of the manufacturers or type the ballast no in a search engine, it normally comes up with what you are looking for. This will tell you wether it is electronic or not for starters( no pun intended)

"quicktronic" i.e electronic, take out the starter if there is one (if it is a wire wound choke) fit the new electronic ballast, wire as you say. L&N in either 1 or 3 which way round doesn’t not matter.
