So a cu change consists of:

1. Pir or eicr first, so for a 12 way board done correctly will take the majority of an 8 hour shift?

2. Correct remedial work if any?say another few hours

3. Change CU, say 3 hours

4. test all circuits, 3 hours again.

So two days for a CU change. Is this normal practice?

you need to issue an EIC. this will be accompanied by a schedule of test results which should have the necessary readings for all circuits. in the extent of works, you need to enter CU change only.

it's only common sense to test all circuits before and after energising.

PIR the install FIRST...before changing the C/U.....will give you an idea of any corrective works that may need to be carried out....such as final circuits suffering from low IR readings.......the borrowed neutral....etc....

In my quote I only quoted for the board change however I did explain that underlying faults may be picked up on the RCD which will need to be traced out and amended accordingly.

So you're undercutting those of us who do a complete job by not doing the full job yourself!!
RCD's are not test meters.

Can I do the board change without testing all circuits? And still issue a certificate or the board swap only?[/QUOTE]

Really!! WTF

you could do it without testing. if you're lucky, everything will work and then you can join the club of CU change in 2 hours ÂŁ150 back pocket, NEXT.

why would you not both inspect and test work you`v done?....if you cant/wont see a job out until completion.....then dont bother starting in the first place mate.....do yourself a favour here and ring an electrician to do this c/u change for you....as you will get an eic...together with a shedule of inspections and a schedule of tests....with signatures.......
