Hey all. Hope everyone is well.

As the title suggests I am in a bit of a pickle on how to go about this. Basically, A guy who I did some work for in the past has approached me as he has bought a new house and wants it rewiring.

Done rewires before for company but not private. This would be a first but more than confident to take it on.

I work full time so it would be a cash job but mate is going to part P and certify it. I hope I am allowed to ask for help but before I put the spec on here I just want to clarify it's ok and that it isn't against any rules so to speak.

Cheers.

As its a cash job you should have little issue in beating other sparks to the job. And if you don't want to go against any rules, I think you just did lol!

Perhaps so but am I supposed to say "It's ok mate I won't do it get Mr Company spark to do it?"

I respect there are rules and regulations but if it's getting certified what's the issue?

Please explain.

I work full time for a company and I do private jobs in my spare time. We all need extra money and I'm saving to buy my own house. If I get approached to do a job then I'm going to take it.

The question was simply asking for help on a quote as I haven't done a job to that scale before (working for a company obviosuly doens't mean pricing labour/materials etc).

That said mate of mine is Part P and he inspects and tests it and adds his charge. He will do an Initial Verification or look at it first fix and then at second fix before final test and hand over.

Again, I'm struggling to see an issue here.

Theres a couple of ways to price it

You could set yourself a day rate then multiply by amount of days you have spent there then just clock up the materials

Or you could just go in with a price, a lot of people will price per point with materials included

I often charge between 1500-2500 all in and complete within a day(with help obvs)

Pricing does differ depending where you are based in the UK

if youre not a qualified electrician or even a part-pee-er and youre doing electrical work for a bit of cash in hand, then cant you see how qualified electricians may be annoyed that not only are you taking work away from them, but you actually have the nerve to ask them to help you do it?

Piratebillybob, I am fully qualified. At what point did I say that I wasn't? You (and probably others) have assumed.

Now, yes I agree that Part P sparks may get a bit annoyed but at the end of the day it goes back to an old saying "If I don't do it someone else will".

You think I'm the only spark in the country that's done this or considered it or works full time and tries to make a bit more money? Reality check needed.

If you were in my shoes would you refuse the work because you don't have Part P but can get around it? Would you still refuse it if you have 2391, NVQ 3, 17th Edition and 7 years exp?

"It's ok mr Bloggs, I think I'll pass on this one I might upset a few people". Nuff said.
