Discuss Roller Door Feed 3 phase (RCD?) in the Commercial Electrical Advice area at ElectriciansForums.net

Ah ok , was going to fit it high up , but I assume it's switch level then . My bad thinking of small garage roller doors , see told you I was domestic ,lol

You need to ask the installer as I said many of these are now at high level by the shutter mechanism. If it is high level I would not be fitting an rcd at the socket position.

high level commando socket dedicated to the door. no RCD required. maybe a RA to cover your arse.

is the door going to be 1 phase or 3 phase. ? the 3 phase ones I'vecome across need a 5 pin socket.so a 5 core SWA as well.

Why do they need a plug & socket?

If it is simply for a means of isolation for maintenance then a lockable rotary isolator next to their box would do and then no RCD needed.

A lot of the recent new doors I've seen come with commando plug already fitted, it's like they're expecting them to fail and it's easier, and cheaper, to send cheap labour just to swap it over rather than a spark to mess with silly things like wiring...

Seen one which was fed from a 16 amp commando which was plugged into a standard BS1363 socket outlet... ?

Ah, follow the money and you see the reason :(

Externlising the cost as they say, making your installation more expensive to overcome their crap quality.
