Running strobes on 16A

I'm a total electrical novice, although I know about lighting. I have 2x 16A 1000w strobes for an install in a nightclub although when powered from 13A socket with no other loads on the circuit, it trips the switch. The club has a 32A socket that can be used, what's requires to branch out from this 32A socket to run 2 16A strobes (the socket is single phase) the strobes run on mains plugs

(sorry for the lack of detail but some help would be appreciated!)

Firstly 1000W is not 16A, I assume you mean they are supplied with 16A plugs on them?

To power them from the 32A socket you will need a distribution unit which has a 32A incoming connection and 2 x 16A sockets with the correct MCBs to protect each socket.

However the mcb supplying the 32A socket will likely still trip out when you use them, the problem you have is the massive inrush of current when they operate.

You will need an electrician to check the circuit out to see if it is possible to install a different MCB which would allow the inrush current to flow without tripping the circuit.

yes, I meant they have 16A sockets. The strobes have built in MCBs on the back - does that mean a cable could be used with a 32 amp plug and 2x 13amp sockets to power the strobes? Thanks

No that doesn't mean you can do that, all it means is that they have MCBs installed in them.

As I stated above you need a distribution box which takes 32A in and gives 2 x 16A sockets out with the correct MCBs and any other protection required. Have a look at the rubber box company to see what I am talking about.

You should also get an electrician to check that the supply to the 32A socket can handle the inrush current.

You'd have to be a complete idiot if you were planning to install these 2 strobe light in a nightclub/disco. It's classified as a place of public recreation (can't remember the exact term) and comes under special regulations. God help you if either of these strobe light fittings, causes a fire from inappropriate installation methods with subsequent injury or even worse, loss of life!!

Hence why I'm agreeing to an electrian to come and check the club out, and install the strobes if needed.
