Carrying out periodics on various council properties would i be right in putting down limitations for-
Selection of conductors for current carrying capacity and voltage drop if there is no design information.
Erection methods if not present during the instillation.
Routing of cables same as above

And under the schedule of items tested basic protection by barrier or enclosure provided during erection would that be a limitation on a periodic or is this asking have you checked the parts that are visable during inspection.

Cheers for any info

It's hard to confirm unless you can see the entire circuit. Just because it's the correct size at the MCB and the outlet, who's to say there isn't a jointed section somewhere with an incorrectly sized section of cable so yes I would LIM it.

Erection methods if not present during the instillation
Yes, LIM.

Routing of cables same as above
Yes, LIM again.

This refers to the accessories themselves....you are checking that all socket and switch fronts. DB covers, box lids, outlet backboxes, bases etc etc are present and correct - no access to live parts etc.

Cheers for any info

Hope this helps.:)

Sorry Lenny, I would have to disagree with you on that one. As this is under the schedule of items tested, it is (as far as I am aware ;) ) to do with the very rare occasion that you have constructed an enclosure on site for electrical equipment, and that you have tested it to the required standards set out in the relevant BS EN number. This would be nowadays BS EN 60439.

Just my thoughts, but this has been discussed with my area engineer as it's been one of the items that I have not been sure of myself...

I am happy to be corrected though! :)

I agree with lenny

Well that's entirely your choice!

But tell me, what procedure do you conduct for this test to ensure that you have protection by the barriers or enclosures provided during erection?

And also, how comes this tick box isn't included in the domestic installation or domestic periodic report from the NICEIC? As presence of undervoltage protective devices, insulation of non-conducting floors or walls etc., are also not included as they are are not deemed necessary for a domestic installation...

Just a couple of thoughts, :)

I know they had said tests before, but I assumed it was a mistake

Sorry mate, I've added a couple of extra bits in since you've posted the last two.

It's under schedule of items tested, along with site applied insulation, non-conducting floors or walls, polarity and all the other gubbins that goes there...

NICEIC full periodic and installation certs, they like to add more than what the IET ask for in BS7671, so on the schedule of items inspected page, you also have a schedule of items tested, which includes, Ze, Ra, rings, insulation resistance, functional testing, site applied insulation, polarity, verification of voltage drop, RCD's and a few others...

I would agree with you on this one pevvers. Always understood it as you have explained.
Again happy to be corrected.

I don't understand how you can test barriers and enclosures

Get a copy of BS EN 60439, and they go into great depth of all the necessary requirements for low voltage switchgear... And if you can understand them all, then you're a better man than me, as it's mostly gobbledeegook to me! There are things likes glow wire tests, a few kV flash tests, most probably a current withstand test of a few thousand amps and many more.

This is why it's a box that should not normally be ticked, like the non-conducting floors and walls and similar.

There was always a great one in the 16th certificates, which was "limitation of discharge of energy". Whenever this was ticked, it was always nice to ask where the electric fence was as this would be the only time (disclaimer - as far as I know) that the box would be ticked.

test fingers, i ve been told to put N/A in this box of items tested unless u have a set of test fingers (guages) to test ip ratings of ip4x (1mm) and ip2x (12mm) hope this helps
