are you actually serious?

I came on this forum to ask for genuine advice and there's you accusing me of using that advice to do jobs myself which I haven't got the slightest clue on anything electrical.

1. I started the apprenticeship thread as I was looking to become a sparky but I had no responses and opted to become a PT instead.

2.I started the plug thread as I wanted to know what are the best brand to go for as I don't want to replace them years to come

3. I started this thread as im concerned that the fuses he's used in the consumable unit are two different brands and im asking if this is normal and to ask if it will be fine to ask him to replace it.

you have some personal issues which shouldn't be expressed in a thread where im asking for professional advice off members.

Murdoch is one of the most respected members on here so his advice does count.
I think you may just be getting touchy because he has rumbled you!!
if you are genuine then why haven't you rung the electrician who supposedly did the job and tell him of your concerns.

If you're asking for professional advice then it would be common courtesy to take the matter up with the professional that installed the "Consumable" Unit and see what he has to say before coming on here to ask for comments on hypothesis.

Absolutely. Do you have ANY idea how difficult it is to make a living these days with chancers sucking info all the time

I would address your concerns in writing to the muppet you have employed then. Get a written response and in the meantime, don't pay him.

Mix and match CU installs are crxp and simply demonstrate poor workmanship

You should also confirm his registration number as this work is notifiable and thus you will need the appropriate covered off.

I created this thread to ask you guys if a customer i.e. me, asks you to change a consumable box which you've fitted to change it again as he is not happy about the end job.

It was always my intension to pass on my concerns to the sparky after I get helpful responses from you guys but when a member starts accusing you of using that advice to potentially use it to do jobs myself then that's not acceptable.

Again I'll advise you to talk to the installer and ask his reasons for doing what he's done before coming on here looking for ammunition to use against him.
Also YOU came here looking for advice and got quite arrogant about some of it that you didn't like, perhaps you should think about that before you ask anymore questions.

I recently asked an electrician to replace the old type fuse box with an up-to-date consumable unit and he fitted a Schneider Easy 9 unit in and to be honest it just looks cheap and nasty. My girlfriend was in the house at the time so I couldn't give my input on the unit before he fitted it.

Would it be rude of me to ask him to replace it with a different unit as at the end of the day I'm the one paying him?

He must have quoted for this work, what did the quote say? no good complaining,if he has done the work to his quotation? Nuf said

To be fair I wonder how many quotes specify make and model of the consumer unit. None of the three jobs that I've had done did so (all three used Hager by the way).

1 - Schneider is one of the top range brands and expensive to boot.
2 - Schneider own and go under many names ... Square D, Merlin Gerin, Telemecanique all pf which are top quality brands.
3 - other brands of mcb/rcd should not be mixed in the same boards and this would ring alarm bells if I employed someone to fit a new consumer unit and it had several mixed brands in it.
4 - In changing the consumer unit, your electrician should issue you with a certificate listing a full inspection report and meter reading of circuit compliance to ensure he is not reconnecting a dangerous/hazardous circuit back up.
5. The earthing arrangements and equipotential bonding will have been confirmed as satisfactory before changing the board.
6 - Confused why you haven't ask the Electrician yourself about your concerns before coming on here.

Point 3,4 and 5 can have potentially life threatening results and or risk to property is not carried out correctly.

This should be all you need to know from the opening post you submitted, IMHO any competent Electrician would not come to fit a new consumer unit and have mixed brand devices in it, have you got a picture to post of this so called concerning install?

None of mine BUT I always fit the same manufacturer CU and MSB's and will ALWAYS endeavour to do the same, where ever possible on future upgrades.
