Went to work this morning, oh hi Pete, fancy having a lad for the day on job training from the local school? why not I thought, this lad spent most of the day on his I phone, if he wasn't texting he was playing cowboys with the battery drills, oh my god I need a drink, ah that's better, what a pratt, and his old man was one of the bosses what could I do? got him tomorrow as well, any advice would be appreciated, not looking forward to it, go sick, take leave or suck it up?

Pete just to keep him busy why not tell him to shake the can of galv lubrication spray until the ball inside stops rattling ????
Then at tea break send him down the bakers and ask him to buy you a randy Tart !!!

they're a hazard on-site because they're so distracting.

Sorry what did you say?....I was just on the phone...

Yeah keep asking him for stuff like a left handed screwdriver, a new bubble for your level, glass hammer etc... Or ask him to go in the next room for an extra long stand
That'll **** him off for sure

I would speak to his dad just say as a young lad and his first try at work he is not offay with work then say how far can I go in getting him to work shall I ring you if he doesn't want to work ? Also ask the dad if he could make his son leave his phone at home

Very easy. Say " please could you put the phone in the van during the day,or i will crush it". One of two things will then occur. One of them results in touch screen goo adhering to your boot. Get gloves out of van,and have a straightener. Apologies to your boss for raising a child incorrectly. Put gloves on for second time. Send out CV...

If a spade is a spade how do you describe it any differently told the directors of a company I worked for a while ago they were idiots didn't last long after that but they needed telling

Beat him with a bit of conduit every time you see him on the phone but be nice use plastic not metal
Reminded me I was talking to a master joiner I work with - he's just shy of 60 so served his apprenticeship over 40 years ago.

we were laughing about "measure twice cut once" because I'd asked him about thrice and sixpence times how high the pelmet was going to be over the window. He told me when he was learning, he was told measurements once, and if he asked for them again, he was beaten.

don't think he was joking either. It worked anyway he is the dogs danglies, done things most joiners would shuffle away from, or if attempted would louse it up.

Tell him he is not allowed to use his phone execpt at 10 and 1 oclock, if he doesn't agree make him sit in the van all day, you won't notice him then and his day will be very slow and painful lol
not good enough.
the phone needs to be confiscated ....he can have it back at breaktimes...but apart from that....
