While waiting In screw fix yesterday I overheard a guy asking the server (which I must add was a young girl) what was the difference between 16 mm2 and 25mm2 tails, obviously she didn't have a scooby so she asked the manager, his answer was if it's a shop 25mm2 if it's a house 16mm2, my question is why did I bother doing 4yrs at college when all I need to do is ask a retail manager for technical support ????????

Went into screwfix the other week for a 3.5mm tap, Mr shop assistant informed me that they never had any best try Plumb Centre

You have to know that they call it a "Rethreading Tool M3.5x.6", so if you search for "Rethreading Tool" on their website, you'll see they do have them. But try searching for a "tap" and it won't find them. Unfortunately many of the staff have no real idea of what they are actually selling, the stuff is just part numbers and matching descriptions.

Whilst on the subject of wholesale assistants I went into Edmundson for the firm and asked for some plastic kopex ends and what he fetched me was 20mm plastic spacer saddles! I was also after a weatherproof switched FCU for myself to which he fetched me an MK one and I said if you can do me that for £20 i'll take it. He told me they bought it for £25 and it resells at £45. I went online to Screwfix and they had the exact same one for £14 retail. I've had this argument on here before and no wholesaler our company use can beat Screwfix!

Screwfix and the like have there place , same as everything. I don't personally use them unless I have no option ie bank holidays and Sunday's .

well its annoyin...

caus to anyone with an engineerin background its taps...dies...reamers...drills..etc..

I like screwfix, my electrifix counter have started doing quotes and actually beat there own catalogue price on large orders. And they are good for getting all the odd bits i use that are non electrical, plus free coffee and donuts

Well the other day in ElectricFix a bloke was kicking off because he was ordering loads of stuff and they told him they would do it on a quote and it came out the exact same catalogue price. They then said that you have to spend at least £1000 to get more discount through quote.

well....i`v got the trade UK account which works in screwfix and the orange shed....

tradeUK has itself a website....i`v posted up the link before...but here:

Find work in the trade - Trade UK Home

you can build a website on there...(of sorts).....which uses TradeUK domain address

theres a bit where you can search for jobs in your catchment area....

all the above is free....worth a look at least....

Whilst in the orange shed some time last year , looking for some flooring .
One of the assistants got me to sign up for a Tradepoint card , telling me how they would more than likely beat who we already use !
So I asked him what he could do 650m of 4core 185mm for , as I had to order some the very next day ( Monday ) .
His reply was just classic ! And along the lines of " I think you will find that you cannot get cable in more than 100m at a time !".

I did go in a week later and buy some flooring that was on offer , and just as I was about to pay I remembered the card and when I handed it over the price went from £370 up to £490 !!!
I told the cashier that she could keep the card for herself , but she strangely declined the offer ?
