As some may (or may not) be aware, on 6th Jan 2014 five electricians and the Scheme operators gave evidence before the DCLG Commons Select Committee :

Player

The Committee clearly have serious concerns regarding :

1. Electrical scheme members using "short courses" as a means of entry to electrical Competent Persons Schemes

2. The Qualified Supervisor system.

3. The lack of any requirement for either the QS or the individuals actually carrying out electrical work to have any training, qualifications or experience to meet Scheme membership requirements.

4. The number of untrained, unqualified and inexperienced individuals being granted "grandfather rights" by the Scheme operators.

The "short-course" route to scheme entry may well soon cease to be an option for those not possessing sufficient relevant experience. However, the issue of grandfather rights may well affect a large number of current Scheme members who may find themselves unable to PROVE their competence independently of their Scheme operator.

Furthermore, those wishing to gain scheme entry before any potential "deadline" would do well to reconsider their proposed business plan .... just a thought before you spend your savings or get into debt ....

so is it typoglycemia or topmycigylea?

I couldn't believe that I could actually understand what I was reading: the phenomenal power of the human mind. According to a research team at Cambridge University, it doesn't matter in what order the letters in a word are, the only important thing is that the first and last letter be in the right place. The rest can be a total mess and you can still read it without a problem. This is because the human mind does not read every letter by itself, but the word as a whole. Such a condition is appropriately called Typoglycemia.

Been threatened with a section order twice.

Phil D has as his signature “you only think you’re mad, I have a piece of paper to prove it”. I can better that, I got a court ruling.

PS, Phil and I are good mates.
funnily enough, the 'nuttiest' person i know has a certificate to say they are sane!

The Ironic thing of all this is that all of you Electrical Trainee haters with old 236 and 2360 Quals will now have to take NVQ 3 as well or you will be classed imcompetant.

Nope Sorry you'd be wrong to think that!! Why, ...because depending on when you completed your apprenticeship, you would have come out of your time, with more than enough practical skills and experience never to need a NVQ. In fact, there were no such things in my time, because they just weren't needed!!

There is a popular misconception that in order to get the untrained/incompetent up to speed we will ALL have to take a NEW (ÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁ) course - this is, of course, total rubbish as you are not trained, qualified and experienced one day - but not the following day!

I have no doubt whatsoever that the scam-mongers will be wandering the corridors of power peddling the usual drivel from the schemes and "training" organisations.

The properly trained and competent electricians are not the problem - so why should they pay the price for the incompetence of others?

I sincerely hope all the dangerous short route stuff is brought to an end with the current parliamentary enquiry.
Re so called grandfather rights to the current unqualified, Im sure their scams have accumulated enough cash to put them through college.

Boydy

It's what we all want. Very jubious myself, don't see anything been done unfortunatley.

The scams will either have to pay everyone they've ripped off back, or put them through college = eating into office boy's bonuses = they'll do anything in their power to worm there way out of this.

The schemes set the standard allowing the present fiasco - and then stated IN FRONT OF A COMMONS SELECT COMMITTEE that there was a will to grant "grandfather rights" at the beginning - but they did not say WHO wanted this ....

I`ll give you three guesses!

Much was made of the 17.5% reduction in fires due to Part P - with a promise to provide increased "granularity" - the subsequent WRITTEN answer stated that they were unable to provide such information .... i.e. it was an "estimate" based on the figures that we wished to use ....

The schemes now have less credibility than the short course providers - which is only fair as the training companies cater for a market, they did not create it via the EAS Committee as the scam providers clearly did ....

yep...we clearly know that one begets another....

this is why there needs to be a clean sweep...leave either one...or the other in place and you can be sure that before long we`ll be back where we are now....

and it needs new faces to come in and do the deed...

a new brush sweeps clean as they say....

From what i've been seeing over all these related threads is the amount of ''Apathy'' that abounds on this and other forums. Far too many ready or quick to dismiss every stride being put forward or tried to make the industry a better place for all. I sometimes wonder if having a Register of Qualified Electricians, wouldn't be in some of these members best interests!!!!!!

No wonder the industry is in such a bloody mess, you all just sat back and let the parasites move in, ...now they are telling you what you can and can't do, and charging you for the privilege too!!

It's time to get off your bums and start calling things as they are, forget all this politically correct crap, it plays into the hands of the opposition!! It's a shame most of you can't see what's being said in the 3000+ forum.....

Boydy, if I was writing in the context of spelling and then incorrectly spelt, that would be Ironic. What is ironic is you correcting me on spelling and incorrectly stating that is ironic. That is irony in it's purest form!! :cheesy:

Have to agree with Boydy on this one..

There is a certain irony in misspelling 'incompetent' - regardless of the context of the sentence!
