Hi guys

I've been asked to go on a 17th edition regs course by my employer now obviously this is advantageous to myself. But it's out of my normal working hours. The course is 10 weeks long every Wednesday night for 3 hours. They expect me to work my normal day the go to the course which is 1 1/2 hours drive from work then around 45 minutes home. Should I get paid for my time at the course aka the 3 hours and should I get paid my mileage?? The course is available at nearer locations during the working day. But they are saying well this is the training provider we use. Any advice is appreciated if it was 2 or 3 weeks it wouldn't be as bad but it's a lot of my time and fuel for something that is extremely adventitious to them as well.

Boots have been bought myself and so has the rest of my workwear.

For an employee that is illegal, all required PPE must be provided by the employer Free Of Charge to the employee for the employer to meet their obligations under statute law.

Perhaps this is why so many unscrupulous employers employ foreign workers, because they can get away with breaking the law, thus giving themselves an unfair & illegal advantage over legitimate businesses by not meeting the requirements that legitimate businesses have to?

Hopefully the OP has seen the error of his ways and stops acting like a spoiled brat and that is why he hasn't come back on the thread...

Grab it with both hands,if they are giving you the cert at the end what more do you want? When I was with my last firm I sat 2 exams, both C&G passed them both but didn't get the certs, apparently it was company policy to keep hold of them as quote "you did the courses in our time and we paid for them" as for supplying your own tools, well that's no big deal a lot of people do these days,if it's kit you can use anywhere then you will need it anyway at some point,at least you don't have to buy stuff that is only used in that particular job,I've still got tools and test gear that I had to buy when I worked in telecommunications that was soley for use in that game and hard to shift without taking a real knock on it.At the end of the day just remember there are probably sparks out there who need a job who've got more qualifications and experience than you and would take your job in an instant, the fact the company is paying is a good thing,a lot of firms insist you have certain quals these days and if you don't heve them when they take you on they expect you to get them within a certain length of time at YOUR expense.

very true Paul, sadly these days a lot of firms expect you to have boots, hard hat,hi viz etc.Mind you when I sorted out my cupboard recently I was amazed at the number of hi viz coats that I had, used to get a new one issued at a new firm but still use my old one,I think I've got enough to last years lol
