We played at a club in a particularly rough area of Sunderland (I was in a band) and the kids used to ask for money to "look after" the cars & our van parked in the club car park.

We knew this scam very well, and on this night one of the lads had brought his Rottie along & left it in the van cab. When the kid asked for money, he was shown the dog sitting there, but not missing a beat he came back with the immortal line: "Aye .. but is he any good at putting fires out?"
