Hi all

I only ask as i do self cert my own work but a spark i know asked if i could sign a job off for him as i have never done this before i was just enquiring

I am with napit full scope have 17th edition 2300 level 2/3 and 2391 insp/test;)

thanks all

Got my ELECSA welcome pack yesterday and in the covering letter in no uncertain terms it stated that I was not to sign off any other electricians work..........

A read through approved document P would put this issue to bed easily, in particular section 1.28 & 1.29, on pages 11 & 12.

Basically, no, you cannot sign off and register another 3rd party electricians work..;)

"In what way do you think it's abused, It's the QM's job to test and verify their companies installations , are you suggesting that they will sign off sub standard work" But the NICEIC practice of one QS signing off the work (that he has NEVER seen) of several sparks is common practice. The sparks in question do not even have to have passed a 17th Ed regs exam! The QS system was only ever intended for use on site, never in the private domestic sector - this is where the abuse lies. This is a DANGEROUS practice and must be stopped. People who carry out electrical work UNSUPERVISED should be fully competent IN THEIR OWN RIGHT.
