I have noticed recently a few post "can I ask a silly question".

There is no such thing as a silly question. If you want to ask a question ask it. You may think it is silly, but how many people look on here and think I wish somebody would ask......this or that.

We are not all professors on here, and even the more experienced of us don't and never will know it all, and we ask some basic questions from time to time because we don't all have the same specialities. Good examples are the lads doing commercial day in day out, will come on and ask what to me is a basic question about domestic. its not because they are stupid, its just not their normal comfort zone, and vice versa if i get a commercial job.

There is only one way to gain knowledge, and that is to ask. So don't be shy.:)

Cheers.........Howard

the only question that`s silly is the one that`s not asked.
its silly if we don`t understand and still don`t ask. i have sat in classrooms being taught by lecturers and they have not known something that the new lads into the trade knew. we all have something to bring to the table and if we do it collectively together we will all learn a little something :D i have learnt tons since i came on here and i still am by looking through the old posts. so thanks to whoever has posted the silly question that no one else wanted to admit to not knowing

I heard of a very well known mathematics professor who was giving a lecture on a particularly difficult bit of maths. He asked if everyone understood what he had said. Every one said yes or kept quiet except one girl at the front who said she did not. Being a helpful guy he explained it again in a different way. Again he asked if everyone understood and the girl apologised and said she still did not follow it. He paused for a while thinking of a different way to explain the concept and then described it for a third time. He asked the girl if she had understood and she thanked him profusely for making it so clear and she now understood and apologised for being so dense. The lecturer replied that she should not apologise and it was he who should be thanking her as this was the first time he had properly understood the concept!

The moral of this story is that we can all learn something sometime even if we know nearly all of it.

Lol just like in the classroom, everyone is dying to ask , then when the duck is broken it's a free for all. If you do'nt ask where the light switch is you either grope about or stay in the dark.

We are the electricians that installed the light switch, we know where it is.1200mm high and just next to the door in the safe zone ;);).

or it's 5ft high and the cable is behind the architrave on the other side of the wall.

definition: a horizontal line is a straight line, parallel to the surface of still water. as still water follows the curvature of the earth, how can a horizontal line be straight?
