Sorry Markc123 but I cant agree with you on this one, as a manager yes he achieved more than anyone else in the game and for that I take my hat off, but as for a sad day for football fans, nooooo, he manipulated the FA/Press and anyone else he could to get his own way, and was allowed to, some may see this as good management, others may see it as power crazy, for those reasons he turned Man Utd into probably one of the most loved and hated teams in the world/country. Man Utd were/are a good team, I believe previous ones have been better than the one thats just won the league, another subject. In general he was given time, which doesn't happen now-a-days allowing the building of a strong team (hopefully the Real Mighty Reds will do the same) in todays football if you dont win anything within 2-3 years you've been a failure and get the sack, if at Chelsea its within 1 year its the same, the other title contenders have money as do Utd but as said, the managers are not given the time to use it wisely and therefore feel they have to rush out and buy whoever they can, City and Chelsea have both got lucky with this but in general its not going to make you successful. Arsenal are the only other team that have tried to do this and have done well, the last few years they have fallen short but that probably co-insides with when City and Chelsea became rich. The 2 best examples of how to develope football and great teams are Liverpool of the 80-90's, and obviously Utd late 90's until now. Who will be the next manager is the next question, I think the Special One, but Moyes is favorite and has done a great job with Everton, lets see who has been lined up. Whoever takes over has a reasonably easy few years to start with as the team will already be there, what they do after that remains to be seen, maybe the tide will turn back to Merseyside (wishful thinking).
