Dear all. Need to install a generator to power a site cabin. When I test it any idea what I put down as supply type on cert. Never seen 'generator' as an option and its it tt as its under 10kva

Hi,
I quoted for a generator system earlier this year, and the problems were the earthing for generators under 10K could be one of three types.
1 ) Neutral and earth linked at source.
2 ) Floating Earth – Usually frame of generator linked to the earth cable, but no earth as such.
3 ) Earthed centre tapped output (known as V-O-V) which are similar to a three phase supply setup which provide 110V down live AND neutral giving 220V between live and neutral for appliances but only 110V between earth and live or earth and Neutral, however, these generators should never be used to power more than one appliance.

Have a look at the thread “http://www.electriciansforums.co.uk...orum/109155-advice-generator-earthing-2.html” and see if this helps.

Hi thanks for the replays. There is no earth rod. I'm guessing from davidonp's reply it is floating frame so I guess I just note that on NICEIC cert. Cheers

One more question, what would be an acceptable frequency for retest of the cabin. Bearing in mind it's full of builders I would think monthly but is that overkill ?? ( no pun intended). Cheers

Technically there isn't a neutral conductor as no conductor is referenced to Earth. They are both line (phase) conductors.
