What I find difficult is telling the customer that they can't have what some crummy salesman has told them they can have. We went to an older couple's home a couple of weeks ago and had to tell them that they could only get 2.2kwp instead of 4kwp on their roof and that moving their solar thermal from 5 years ago to a different part of the roof didn't mean they would be able to claim RHI in June. It looked like we were the bad guys not giving the customers what they wanted .. haven't got the sale so I'm guessing that at some point in the next few weeks some poor installer is going to turn up with 4kwp of panels and have a few left over! What made it worse was that the customer came to us as a referral from a satsified customer ... but they still didn't believe us

It makes want to laugh or cry crap like that, well leave em to it mate, and then when they ring up in a few months "er hi there you came to give us a quote a few weeks ago, we would like to dicuss it further" you can go back with a smug feeling.

What do we expect?
Consider this scenario:
MCS inspection on your own house, get accreditation. Join REAL.
Get your MCS cert through, leave REAL. Chuck the installs up for a bit of cash and dont bother with your Quality managment system and dont bother renewing your MCS a year later. Who is going to know?

Consider this:

Spend 3-4k on training and getting MCS (also 6 months of your life), anther few grand on a system for your own house to get accreddited on, then sack of the REAL membership, dont bother with your MCS and then go to see some customers and submit your quote along with 8 others, and win them over with your loyalty.

Not likley.

I just came back from a site survey for a couple who'd been given a reasonable quote by someone else but they had been told that they could heat thier house with electricity free of charge and they weren't impressed that my 1.7kWp system couldn't do that when the competitor's system could. A lengthy explanation of relative energy consumption followed at the end of which they mused about how hard it is to know who to believe!

Good god - (rolling my eyes) they really "f" it up for us - i had a good experiance at 9am yesterday, a bloody double booking, wife booked me for 9am and husband booked someone else for the same time...and i got there first followed by another knock at the door 2 minutes later.

what a laugh...not

We've only just started to take a wage and a small one at that and we were certified at the end of October! We'd have had no money for stock otherwise -still not vat registered either - but looking forward to rebate when it comes!!!

Some really poor people quoting and giving very over optimistic figures. Currently, I am constantly following a company who say their 3.88 sharp poly system will produce over £2.2k a year with around 4400 kwh a year and the savings. And the inverter they use is better than any others as its start up voltage is lower. Does start up voltage really make them that much better? I thought the overall efficiency of and inverter was more important.

Do you know who the firm is? Report them. Those figures are, frankly, b*****s and it's utterly unethical for a firm to be using them.

Do you know what inverter it is that they use?

Yes I know the firm, if it carries on I will. The firm may not realise they are over quoting the production, but I doubt it.

They may use two inverters, one was SEA Australia and then another customer said to me it was Phase - one.

Start up voltage is 150v.

Unfortunately Ideal have got their original subbies to get their own MCS so now Ideal Solar salesmen can say and do whatever they like........no change then ....so now they are completely outside the system and unpoliced.
You cannot blame REAL for this, as it is a massive loophole in the MCS system.

Aren't the MCS firm (whoever they may be) ultimately still responsible for these salesmen even though they don't technically work for the same firm?
