Hi I have a job to do off a person to put some lights and a socket in his shed

The consumer unit is in the front of the house no spare ways in a cupboard assembly with small access no room really to install a 2 way consumer unit in the area.

Would it be ok to use a 13a spur unit fed from the ring main from the other end of the house feed a cable to the shed put in a double socket for the power and a 2a fused spur box wired in radial with the socket to feed a couple of lights controlled by a switch or control the lights from the fused spur box switch. The circuit will not be overloaded with what he wants to use in the shed.
Would this circuit arrangment pass the Inspection and Testing

As long as you use the correct type of cable for the installation method outside, and it is OK for voltdrop etc, and is RCD protected at whichever point it needs to be, then it shouldn't be a problem. But dont bury 2.5mm T&E outside in the garden, or hang it on the washing line, i joke not, i have seen this on many occasions, i dont wish to insult you, but i dont know your experience, so if you are a qualified bod then sorry.

Cheers........Howard

It is definitely a must with the RCD, John, as your travelling outside the equipotential zone and also because 17th now requires RCD protection for new sockets. Either that or you could swap the existing ring main breaker for an RCBO, as well as the FCU. That would sort your problem.

I would also check in the regs for the maximum permissible distance allowable for an FCU circuit. Somebody on here said it was 3m max earlier, though im not sure myself, if that is correct.

Also you need to consider voltdrop. 3% max for lighting and 5% for all other circuits.

How are you transporting your feed to the shed? Conduit? SWA? It will need to be mechanically protected.

Yes there is already as SWA cable taking a supply from a FCU there but but it is about 15/20 metres away it feeds a 13a twin metal clad s/o
I was thinking I could get a s/o with RCD protection in it, but do you think it will be ok to wire another FCU in radial to the socket and fuse it 2 amps for a couple of lights in the shed.
