Consider this All exposed conductive parts must earthed unless otherwise protected.
An aluminium array is an exposed conductive part.
Otherwise protected -
Double insulated system
Electrically isolated using an Isolation transformer
Non conductive location not feasible
Earth free equipotential bonding not feasible
So An inverter with an isolation transformer or
a separate isolation transformer What has efficiency got to do with where the tranny is inside or outside the Inverter.
No isolation transformer then the Array needs earthing IF it has exposed conductive parts
