Solar PV Testing

hi all

just finishing our first solar pv install and got mcs accreditation in a couple of weeks.
just wondering what the correct testing procedure is for the pv system?

all help would be greatly appreciated....cheers guys!!

String tests are Voc and Isc (also need to measure irradiance)

Insulation test between + & - (short circuited together) and earth and array frame.

Job done!

If you want an excel file for the PV Array Test report PM me.

Also make sure there is enough sunlight to do the test over 400 should be fine
paperwork is most important

Can I conform that performing Ics (array short circuit current) I am indeed safe to connect the + and - together and clamp meter around to obtain the reading?

It may well sound like a stupid question, but its worth me asking as I don't fancy telling the boss I'v just knackered up his lovely new panels!

I know its against all we do in electrical terms but yes you have to short circuit the + and -, unlike the grid there is only a limited amount of current that can flow.

Also remember try not to hot switch with the plug & sockets - use a dc isolator.

Testing the d.c. side of solar PV is covered in: The testing of a system should be carried out to meet the requirements of BS76712008 Part 6 Inspection and Testing, and the d.c. elements should be tested tomeet IEC 62446 and G83/1 also BS7671.

Testing Solar Pv installations is de-mystified on this course.

Learn how to correctly and Safely test your PV installation.

Course duration: OneDay, 8.30am to 4.00pm

Are you fully complying with inspection and test requirements?

· Polarityof all DC cables
· PV string open circuit voltage test
· PV string short circuit current test

hi can anyone give me some advice please its about the testing side of the solar installation i can find Voc and Isc not a problem but how do i find the string Voc and Isc is that the same as the array parameter ?? and how do you do the array installation resistence ?? is it plug the male and female together per string in the loft leaving the modules out thus having a long lead...then at the furthest point like the 16A mcb or AC isolator...belt 500v through the live and earth and the same for neutral and earth. is it safe to put 500v through the invertor ?? its my first test i,ve done 12 installs so far and want to test myself now am doing my inspection and testing 2391 in feb too looking forward to the learning curve!! cheers rajsparky
