I'm guessing the wire wool and the desoldering tool will remove most of the surplus but there would still be a silver coloured stain on the copper where the solder was?

when its still hot? not when i was soldering? how messt exactly are you? surely you keep taping it on the back of the joint till its hot enough then when it's hot enough it draws enough around and not really any excess

Your link is not working for me.

Hmmm, not sure what happened, the attachment system just had a wobble I think.

This is a 54mm pipe fitting, the solder around the edge of the capilliary is uneven.

A 15mm elbow, you can see the marks where the solder was applied

Here's the other 2 pics

Another 15mm elbow and same again on the top of the 15mm tee piece.

Same problem again on two 15mm tees.

The soldering doesn't need to be watertight but I do want to get a near perfect visual finish.

*edit* I'll take a few pics of the finished product and post them in a few mins.

lol glue it lol.

seriously though wipe it with wirewool when still warm and it will be fine or the mesh you see some plumbers using, just becareful re-heating pipes as you might endup pulling the copper out of the fitting.

if a perfect finish is desirablet then capilary ring fittings that have the solder in them are the way to go, that way you just put copper in and heatup etc

Fill them near level by running the solder around the pipe then wipe with a plumbers wiping cloth. Amazon have them.

Sounds like I probably need more practice but I'll look at getting a proper plumbers cloth rather than the tee-shirt rag I was using.

Here's the finished prototype (this was actually markII after a redesign)

It was a lamp I made for the wife, she requested it for her sewing table. The first prototype was a bit unstable although I preferred the look so this was the second attempt.

Thats good. Now I see why you want it neat . Practice is the key , if you don't do much it is frustrating , but it all falls into place lol.
