Hello
I'm looking at adding more sockets to a bedroom, I notice the existing single socket has to cables running into it, would it be ok to add twin sockets to the end of each cable or do i need to add another bit of cable to complete the existing circuit?

Thanks for any advice

Just to check, do you mean two cables?

If there are two cables, then it is likely that the original socket is on a ring final circuit. But you would need to test if this is the case. you'll need a multimeter that can test resistance and mains voltage. Do you have one?

As it is a ring, it is best to add the new sockets and unclude them as part of the ring.
You can add a socket to a ring as an addition (known as a spur) but you can only have one spur. it is not permitted to have a spur from a spur.
Not true a Radial Final Socket Circuit will have 2 cables at all sockets, apart from the last one.

I was trying to simplify the process for the OP. That is why I said that it is necessary to test if this is the case.

I prefer to help the OP rather than snipe from the sidelines.
Nobody is snipping Mate you were giving misleading advice that's all it happens to everyone from time to time, no need to loose yer rag if you get pulled up once in a while.

@Taylortwocities doesn’t need defending but he stated it would need testing. Posts need to be read before opinions are given.

He did - but he also suggested that two cables make it likely to be a ring, whereas in reality it gives absolutely no indication one way or the other.

Aren't the majority of sockets on a ring, in the domestic setting?

Depends. You could argue that traditionally ring final circuits tended to be used (in the UK). Certainly there's every chance of finding radial final circuits for socket outlets now (or a combination of ring and radial circuits).

But the majority of circuits would be ring. Therefore @Taylortwocities statement "If there are two cables, then it is likely that the original socket is on a ring final circuit. But you would need to test if this is the case." is correct. Yes some circuits are radial.
