The manufacturing of the latest technology will always have 2 speeds those that will have it at any cost and those that will buy at a price that suits their budget. Those who pay the at any price for technology will always have an advantage over the latter as generally when it becomes viable to the masses it is already old technology and the manufacturers are just making the most out of it they can

That is a true statement for the private sector, but it's not always the ones that can afford the latest gadgets that make the most of them!

Regarding containment, always follow guidelines for installing cabling and then add a little space for additional cables, i.e see attached photo of 3 x cat7 lines in 20mm tubes...they just fit.[ElectriciansForums.net] sourcing cat6

So if installing cat6A and above allow 25mm tubes for 4 x data at least, and better 32mm....

As Tel said CPC are good for prices, however when comparing prices make sure you are comparing like for like.If you look at the specs sometimes it says CAT5 CCA this means the cable is copper clad aluminium, there is a lot of it about due to the high price of copper however some suppliers dont tell you its CCA so you may pay dearer for the same type of cable.

DO NOT USE CCA cabling it will not perform as copper does and may not have any warranty with it.

Some further reading from an experienced point of view.................

I've read up about not using cca and as phil d said they don't always mention whether it's copper or cca in the description. Ill be sending 6xcat6 to 3 times rooms. Plus WF100 x2. Hopefully 2x hdmi aswell.
Ill be using 25mm conduit and doing 2 drops for the cat6. Onto a 3 gang 35mm flush box using Mk euro modular sockets.
Think I might have decide on the cat6 UTP 4 pair nexans lanmark 305m

Unless anyone has seen better for the value

Good choice....watch out when using HDMI cables as they are generally only good for 15 - 20 mtrs max if passive....go for active boosters if over this distance or better still use a Wyrstorm HDMI hub and use the Cat6. ;-)

Will be About 10m max. It's more for future options why I am adding the hdmi. Only option regarding installation I can think of, is a trunking that is big enough to accept the head on a pull and a metal clad box with a section cut out of the top. Won't need to pull them in this time but might have to do a pull in future.

I would try cat 5, cat6 is just shielded

Sorry but that is wrong. You can get shielded and unshielded on all categories of data cable. The actual difference is the frequency range each category can handle (and hence the quality of the wire);

  • Cat1 : up to 100 kHz
  • Cat2 : up to 1 MHz
  • Cat3 : up to 16 MHz
  • Cat5/e : up to 100 MHz
  • Cat6 : up to 250 MHz
  • Cat6a : up to 500 MHz
  • Cat7 : up to 600 MHz
  • Cat7a : up to 1000 MHz

I've generally started recommending cat 7 to people because it can be used for video applications with the correct bulans which gives you massive flexibility and future proofing.

I agree as above you can get any shielded form.

We've ran 1000s on meters of cat5e on million pound factories etc they spent 1000s on researching and there was no advantage over cat5e with cat6. Even with sending hdmi over cat5e and USB. As long as a decent cable is used. Both develope limitations over 100m anyways. I'd spend the extra you would on cat6 as put it into a decent cat5e
