Hi all,

Advice please!!!

I have been given a quote to install 19 spot lights in four different rooms. 2x6 1x5 and 1x2. at present i have single rose lights in each room. There is easy loft access as it is a top floor flat in a block of six. The electrician has quoted @ £500-600 plus lights cable etc on top. And said it will take him about four days poss five

Is this a reasonable cost and time frame???

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Brendan....

i would say that's a bit high, unless in london/SE. i would charge £20 per fitting + cost of fittings. (2 days, spark + mate.)

well my boss would typically charge ...about £35-40 per point..thats here in leeds of course.....now then,...early on last year we were down in romford on a rewire of a 4 bed house on 2 lifts......£50 per point and the client was happy with that........

That was prob about right Glenn, romford is overspill from london and my work there is london rates.

Thank you for your advice. i live in Sidcup, Kent but its only about nine miles from London central so i guess it would class as London rates.

then i would say you got a good deal mate to be honest, at the end of the day your having 19 spots in that's a lot of holes, time marking out pulling cable through and having to pay a mate aswell and testing and time writing certs out aswell
good luck

this is it......its not just a case of the fittings/cans....its the access which can put a load of time on a job.....and like you have pointed out here..its the certing of it n all....unlike "joe" at the end of the bar ..pint in hand.....

i always find its the marking out that is a bitch, as i like to split the room/distances btewwn lights etc equally
and you can gaurantee that after an hour of measuring and pinging lines the first one you drill is under a joist and the whole lot needs working out again

Your all quoting price per point, what does that include?? Is it cable, light fittings, labour??

The quote here is 600, plus light fittings, plus cable and other materials etc!!
