This is also the same bunch of muppets whose Polish installers kept managing to trip out a 4kW site supply by using domestic fan convectors to force dry their cement with.

They actually expect me to commission this for them. Er, hello?

Spot on Kenny. Now then, for the bonus points, what are the two most relevant regs?

its unbelievable that actually got all the way to print without it being noticed.

Having seen what they've left me with on site to commission (not quite like drawing), I can quite happily believe this is how their installers actually do it. And yes, I am toying with reporting them to Trading Standards.

I am not for a moment saying its not crap to do this, but what is important is whether its permitted or no

The regulation, as far as I can see, prevents the use of a single core cable coloured green/yellow along its length from being used
It does not prevent the use of G/Y in a multicore cable from being sleeved at both ends as a live

Reg 514.4.2 para 2 "Single core cables that are colour marked green and yellow throughout their length shall ONLY be used as a protective conductor and shall not be overmarked at their terminations, except as permitted by 514.4.3" (which is about PEN conductors)

Table 51 for multicore cables lists G/Y as a protective conductor.

let's face it, the whole thing is a mess. They sell these sunken cellars for around ÂŁ25k a time, look nice, poncy client is happy. Electrically unsafe, no 'emergency trapped' button inside if the door shuts, no guard rails around a gaping hole and installed by Poles that force dry their mix. But shiny shiny = ker-ching ker-ching. Stinks.

Sorry mate, you've lost me. There are only two types of cables - single and multi, and 514 talks about both of them, and on all counts says that G/Y shall only be used as a protective conductor and cannot be oversleeved at termination, even going so far as to specifying the colour ratio of G to Y and saying that the single colour green should never be used either. It even says that they shouldn't be alphanumerically numbered except for circuit ID purposes, so I'm not quite sure what you're driving at.
