Discuss spur off a ring in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

Now come on, just think about this yourself, why would the load of the overall ring, be tempted/persuaded to pass along any spur off that ring??

Maybe this fine upstanding representative of our trade thinks it's like a set of train tracks. You know, it goes careening down one cable and without downgrading it could all rush along the cable to this spur.

Come on, you can spur of a rfc from each s/o without fusing down, or from origin ie cu. Forward fusing does not come into it if using the appropriate size cable.

Sounds like that guy doesn't know much about electricity or wiring! It's max one double socket off a spur from a RFC, (taking account of cable derating factors such as thermal insulation of course). Any more than that and it has to be a fused spur, as then you could draw more than 26A.

HI
you can spur off a ring main as many times as you like provided its fused down... but your limited to 13 amps from the fuse!!

You should have also added, that whilst he can extend as you say, he must also consider the volt drop limitations, which he can calculate, and also ensure that the disconnection times can still be met, and then there is the correction factors for the installation reference method. i suggest he goes back to the painter in question, and tell him that he didn't give him the full info.

Right i am off to change my gas boiler. The window fitter said it was easy, just join the pipes back up, put wet ones to wet ones, dry ones to dry ones and see what happens, apparently if i have got it right it will just work, and if not there will be some sort of bang, but i haven't to be worried about it.
