Having brain freeze at mo after few beers so just a quick one a 20a radial your allowed no more than 50 square metres how do I calculate this to metres if it was a straight run for my radial
 
That's got to be Viz.

You are actually not looking at the length of the cable, the 50 metres squared relates to the floor area served by the circuit you are installing. So wherever your radial goes, check out the size of the room or rooms served. Calculate the combined area, historically it has been limited to 50 metres squared!
Then you have to check out the other design criteria, likely Zs, operating times for CPD, volt-drop, etc.
Check page 426 in your regs book for radial circuit arrangements.
 
Actually the area is very relevant to the original question, and is also mentioned in the Regs, as the overiding indicator of whether a radial protected by a 20A cpd, or a radial with 30/32A cpd, or a ring final circuit should be installed. Once the 'type' of circuit has been decided, then all the other design criteria can be determined.

I think maybe the original text of the question got lost in amongst the banter and beer talk? Still,it was a Saturday night and boys will be boys.

depending on loadand installation method page 61 osg says 31 m but this errrs on the side of safety for humty dumptys so do calcs out and maybe find it ok for lot more, but yes depends on load expected...
