Recently had my inaugural NICEIC Domestic Installer Assessment. My assessor pointed out to me that my Schedule of Inspections was slightly inaccurate in that I had marked "double insulation" as "N/A". He pointed out to me that standard ceiling pendants had no CPC and as such were class 2, double insulated items. Meaning that I should have ticked the "Double Insulation Box". I didn't find myself in a postion to argue with him; indeed his reasoning appeared quite logical. But I recall from the old certificates (not the latest ones) that there used to be a note that stated that Double Insulation was not a suitable method of protection in a domestic installation. Any thoughts from you wise people would be appreciated; just for interest, I have no desire to go head to head with anyone over this matter.

I think the bloke is being a bit picky with you. Maybe your work was at such a good standard, that he didn't have anything to whinge about.

Cheers...........Howard

I've always been a bit confused over whether class II equipment is really double insulated but have always ticked the box anyway as I was told I should!

Some very valid points; thank you. I am quickly learning that all is not either black or white. Even something as simple and commonplace as a ceiling pendant has no definitive answer as to whether it is worthy of a tick or an N/A in double insulation box on the Schedule Inspections. For what it is worth and IMHO I am going for a N/A on the basis that installations that rely on double insulation as a means of protection require supervision and that 411.3.1.1 gives us exceptional authority not to put a cpc on a ceiling pendant.

I would tick the box.
It's not in reference to double insulated installation being under the supervision of a skilled or instructed person.
It's in reference to any instance where double insulation is used as a protective measure

You appear to know what it is in reference to - thanks.
