I have just PAT tested a sunbed shop (inc sunbeds) and each bed was on its own 40A supply. You NEED to know the specs before you can do/price the job.

I'm ashamed to say I have used sunbeds in the past and its not hard to see why the power consumption is so high. You will normally see them advertising 200w tubes and if youve ever been in one you will know how many tubes are in them.

Also every one I've ever used has had a coin box on the wall so a ÂŁ1 equals 3 minutes for example. I would imagine this may be something to do with the A1 A2 connections mentioned earlier.

I wired a sunbed shop about 9 years ago all the beds required 3 phase supplies can't remember what the load was though

I used 32A industrial plugs and sockets this allowed the beds to be disconnected and moved to give access to clean the rooms and do maintenance on the beds

also what are the A1 and A2 connections?

I think these will be contactor coil connections for connecting to an external timer / token meter to control the tanning time

The 3 phase beds I connected had a contactor built in for external control

I fitted one before and was am under the impression that 100ma time delay rcd is fitted normally not 30ma correct me if im wrong on this

Eeerr 41 amps on a 6mm in a trunking dont think so youll need a 10mm for that ,they run at around 9.8kw depending on the type size etc but you have said 41 amps so 45 amp RCBO or RCD with 45 amp mcb 45 amp pull switch / Switch ,10 mm from isolator switch to sunbed

Ok dig this one up again. Well my bed is now installed and what a nightmare its been. As said before, 4 businesses runing off a single phase supply! DNO initially uprated the fuse from 60 to 100A, but left in place what looked like 10mm tails, thankfully they came back and changed them.....then the cold spell hit and everyone plugged in elec fan heaters eventually causing the main fuse to blow, now changed. Place a clamp meter on the supply and there is a constant 80-90 amps flowing and the supply voltage is down to 200V. Sunbed (43A constant on a 50A C type) user was complaing od nuisance tripping on the sunbed, coupled with out of hours access problems, she requested that the circuit protection (+RCD) was moved to within her property. Initial thought was that the MCB was constantly warm due to the heat generated in the original cupboard making it more suceptible to tripping, but when I noted the low supply voltage, this would cause the bed to draw close on 50A (not including start up inrush). Is the constant demand going to drag the voltage down or do you think this is a supply problem. I cant shut the installation down to test as the other businesses wont allow it.....your thoughts greatly appreciated

I think what each shop is pulling is irrelevant the supply either needs upgrading to 3 phase and split witch would involve cooperation and shared costs or, the sunbed shop need to apply and have their own dedicated single phase supply installed.

Yes a bigger supply is needed, your customer will have to speak to their supplier for an upgrade, not sure if this will cost them though.

Watch out as some of the more expensive sunbeds are 3ph double check with the manf. instructions first. Most are available on the net so get make and model no of unit. Often they have special requirements for air extraction too.
