Is it normal for a supply meter (not generation meter) to run backwards when you're generating more than you're consuming?

The DNO will be informed once the G83 is submitted, its down to them then
The G83 notification will inform the DNO that there is microgeneration on site. It is then up to them and the electricity supplier to ponder if this means that a meter needs to be changed. Some FiT application forms now ask this question of the householder.
How would you know it goes backwards if you only read the metre once a month and at night, like I do!
