The problem is only one pump has valves, like an S Plan, but we haves third channel which is a pump controlled via a room stat with no valves!

When you need to run both pumps then both pumps will run! There are 3 channels, 1 is HW, 2 is upstairs heating, 3 is downstairs heating! If I only want downstairs heating on (pump 2), then it goes from programmer to room stat to NC contactor A1 and from room stat to P2 then boiler, A2 on the contactor is connected to N, we then have P1 in 1 terminal and boiler in the other! So pump 2 runs with pump 1 off, ( the stat calling for heat energises the coil and opens the contact). If we then also want to switch upstairs heating on, we hit Channel 2 heating, which runs from programmer to upstairs room stat, to the 2 port valve, then on to pump 1. (Boiler is already running) The same for HW

It's late and I hope that makes sense!

Sorry Bigsparks it's late, so bare with me pls! Lol

So my valve has 5 cores

Grey - PL
Blue - N
Gr/Y - Earth
Brown - SL from stat
Orange - Boiler and pump

Are you saying I could have run my pump with Brown and orange to boiler?!

Thanks for your time!

yeah using simple s plan 2 x 2 port valves you can sort it out.! i like the contactor being used but it does seem slighly overkill you can ise the valves to achive the correct switching.. it is just a small domestic install isit.? large installs with heavier duty pumps usually are wired via contactors save the valve taking the larger current running through them.!

yes double your grey and brown up this will stop the motor being in open position (as when grey = PL) then if one of your stats are not calling you will not get backfeed through the valve orange wich in turn would cause your second pump to kick on when not being called for.!

If you do it this way and the valve fails you will end up with the pump pumping water against a closed valve so I don..t think its ideal, as you have said I would speak with you plumber and enquire about another zone valve
