Anybody had any dealings with tax credits got payed ÂŁ9000 by mistake 7 years ago informed them of this got normal reply dont worry bout it it will get sorted so for last 7 years being paying it of with credits I should receive ÂŁ10 odd pound a week. This year with the wife doing a extra shifts and me doing alot of overtime gone over the allowed amount so letter drops on mat you owe us ÂŁ5000 pay in one go or pay over 12 months. I have heard after 7 years it gets wiped is this true??? Also I have read on website that if you informed them within 30 days that it was wrong and there fault which it was (have letter from them stating this) it may get wiped or part of of it wiped ...

trust them as far as I could throw them. I'm trying to pay back an overpayment and they are making life difficult by not responding! My advise would be keep a note of every time you contact them, be it letter or phone. I would question the amount owed it seems like a lot.

I think your best move would be to give your local citizens advice bureau a call they would be able to give you the correct advice.

Gave CBA a call (me)when are you open (CBA) mon wed thur (me) great I will call in after work (CBA) we are only open from 10-1.30 .......what good is that to me I work days Mon to Fri

Any financial agreement that has not had a payment against it for six years automatically gets written off. This applies to credit cards, loans, mortgages but I don't know about government benefits. I'm sure there will be loads of advice online, good luck with it.

man, words fail me they really do..

Why I told them the the truth about our circumstances they got it wrong my problem or theirs.......every other person I talk to have had problems with the tax credits...when I spoke to a guy at the tax credits his advice at the time was to put it in a high interest account what does that tell you

i would have give them a cheque straight back, its not your money its for people who need it,hence the term welfare..i mean whats ÂŁ10 per week, its nowt to a working man,its a lot to someone who doesnt/cant work, the problem in the uk is because you may be entitled to it you take it,if you need or not..

Dont get me started this country is on its knees do you think if I give it back it will make a difference do you think everybody else who has had a payment wrong will send theirs back as well if they did do you think things will change simple answer NO they will not. The person who Cant Wont work is that half of the people who decide not to work for a excuse of a reason... no offence to the people who have genuine reasons... You are right the money is not mine is was paid in mistake but if you saw ÂŁ20 on the ground would you go and give it in @ police station????

so its a case of everyone else is doing it so its ok,and im more likley to lose a ÂŁ20 than to find one,im a shove in in the back pocket get ya wallet lose it type,i did find a fiver once and gave it to a tramp, and i dont care if he spent it on tea or beer..on your finding money thing, what would you do if you found a paypacket with say ÂŁ500 in it?

tried sending the overpayment back, so far 2 yrs later I have still not managed to do it. They returned it then changed the bank details to send it to. (took ages to get the details first time round) they are still wasting money telling me that I'm not going to recieve anything this year. not had anything in years, not asked for it, sort out the system would be my advice, most people I have talked to at tax credits have little to no idea about how it all works. I would say the same about the VAT people. Everytime I talk to them I get a different answer to the same questions.
