Hi,

I am just about to buy a load of tek screws for a job in a week or so, fixing tray to the outside of a steel clad building.

I was looking on the screwfix website and their ones and people say they are rubbish.

Just wondered where you lot get them from and if they are any good?

To be honest I can not see the screw option , biting well enough to give a reliable fixing on single skin .
The proper tek screws which Tel has linked to , would be my only choice between the two .

Edit; The stitching one's would be best for what you are trying to achieve .

there the same? the only difference is the head on them.

the head is larger on the ones i posted than the hex headed ones ive used before.

(i have used a bag of proper stainless ones i got off ahu installers)

the fixing isnt any stronger, if you want a lot stronger fixing the only way is to drill it yourself then normal screws

I will take your word for it then , but the ones we have are no way near the same .
That is the trouble with just having a picture to look at , it can be deceptive .
I am not being smart , I do take your word for it!

ill be honest the couple brands the wholesalers stock are ****.

ask a ductor if you can have a couple and try them for yourself.

they will probably be square drive but there good

(the squaredrive ones dont wobble as much as the hex or ph ones)

Aha , we use the 14G + ones ! Which are 6.3 mm as opposed to the the other ones at 4.2 mm . They must come in bigger sizes , I just have not seen them .

or square drive, its the one bit that doesnt come in these security bit sets lol

Over here everyone uses square drive for wood screws. Far better than pozis. Not sure why they're not used across the Irish Sea. For self-tappers either square drive or hex (or torx).
